MAMA AND THE FOREVER SAINTS FAN CLUB

Recently two friends on Facebook posted discussions about the mothers they lost, one recently and one many years ago. As reflected in their posts, we never get over the loss of our mothers. Mine passed five years ago and like my friends, my mother lives on in my memories, in my heart. But I am also blessed to be able to keep her alive in my writing. In my inspirational memoir, The Forever Saints Fan Club, my mother lives on as seen in the excerpt below:
.
I wonder about Mama in Heaven. I suppose I wonder about all of the members of my Forever Saints Fan Club. I try to envision where they are and what Heaven looks like and what they are doing. I am a writer and so I can create whatever I want when it comes to Heaven. And so for Mama, I ask myself, “Did she go looking for St. Lucy? Or Saint Jude? Or Saint Anthony?”
I ask myself how Mama is occupying her time. It’s hard for me to envision her in any other way except to see her in her recliner, reading or watching TV or visiting with family or even taking her meals there in the living room. Because that’s how I saw her for the last few years of her life.
But I believe Mama did go looking for and found her favorite saints in Heaven. And, I believe she is still watching over her family here on earth. I can just see her now having a  conversation with St. Lucy about the eyesight of her aging children still on this earth. Telling her St. Lucy that she needs to help us.  I can also see St. Lucy rolling her eyes and thinking maybe she had better look into the matter or she wouldn’t have a bit of peace.
I don’t know how Mama spends her time in Heaven. But one thing, I know for sure is the fact that Mama is still watching the New Orleans Saints with perfect vision now. She’s still cheering them on.
